Google and Traffic Technology
There have been lot of new gadgets coming in cars like GPS and Bluetooth but still the four wheelers across the world have not got the real flavor of Technology. Currently, the operation of car is largely regulated by physical engines not sufficiently intelligent. There is no real operating system behind the engine for operation of Cars.
Just like the smartphones, the Automobile sector in future will get headed for a big revolution through Technology where all big players like Google android, apple, Microsoft will run for a pie in making the operating systems for Smart Cars.
My personal bet is on Google. Imagine, an android based intelligent operating system regulating the Car. This operating system along with vast information collected by Google can bring wonders in the travel experience. This would also bring in lot of safety features for the passengers besides ensuring control over the crime.
If the government gets involved, the entire traffic systems can go for an overhaul.
Imagine, if Google ventures into smart cars, what could happen?
- No unauthorized driving without license: – All smartphone based engine will contain a docket in the car for swiping your driving license. If you will not swipe your driving license then your car will not move. Your smart driving license will also be tagged to your unique identification number just like SSN number in USA. In the eventuality of you not having your smart driving license, you will be able to use your finger thumb impression to drive the car. This would ensure that no one drives the car without disclosing his identity. This would ensure control over the theft of vehicles.
- Approximate time of reaching the destination: – Google will note down your driving pattern from the data collected in the past and will also check the flow of traffic lights being turned into green and red. With a strong mathematical model it will compute your estimated reaching time to the destination.
- Sync with your mobile android system: – The operating system of your car will sync with the mobile of driver android system and from there it would look for the data history in Google+ and the topic of interest as indicated in your profile. It would start playing the music as per the need of the driver. It will also read the entries from Google calendar and will give you a warning if some task mentioned cannot be completed. e.g. at 4 PM your meeting time is in Delhi but you are moving to a different place in Noida at 3 PM, it would trigger you to give a message that you may not be back by 4 PM.
- Crime authorities :- Crime authorities will be able to get the driving license number of people who travelled by a route on a particular date without even going through the video clipping of the roads. They can simply keep on keeping the data of travel of different people. This will help in crime prevention.
- Automatic Challans: – The position of Vehicle which have crossed the Red light will result in sending automatic challans to the traffic offenders. This would save the cost of keeping patrolling people.
- Automatic control over accidents: – If the GPS coordinates of two vehicles show the same position for temporary period this will give an automatic alarm that an accident has happened. This will alert the authorities and an automatic alarm will go the police to reach to the incident of accident.
- Probability of accident: – Based on the zig zag and speed of your driving, the system will compute the probability of accident and if it reaches beyond a limit then your car will start giving you warning. At another level, it would start giving outside signal to outsiders. At further threshold level it can send direct message to traffic authorities with the location of person driving rashly.
- Accident by the vehicle coming towards you: - You will get alert by your car if you face a vehicle which has lots of traffic offences in the past. This could make you more cautious steps.
Technology can play a great role in making our roads safer and reduce the amount of wastage on petrol. All is needed is the forward-looking approach by our governments and necessary will of present giants to venture in this area. Let us see when this really happens.
