Beware of Webcam scams
It may be very costly for someone to believe a stranger online. News is surfacing of some men being blackmailed after their video in private acts was recorded on webcam.
This generally happens over their online meeting or dating with some attractive females who conspire with the scammers. They show their intimate videos and coax them to do the same in return. The video shown by the female is generally a prerecorded video from some adult site. Once men fall prey, their entire activity is recorded.
After that a blackmail threat comes to them to pay a big money in cash related online instruments else their video will be released on bigger public forums. This could result in big loss of reputation to them. Some of them may actually pay but the fear will not go.
These kinds of incidents have been reported on some dating sites which are facilitated through video calling or chatting services.
It is very important for someone to be extra cautious while dating with someone on internet. Few of the tips recommended would be
- Do not get into interaction with anyone with whom you have not met. In the days of technology lot of things can be twisted and starting with anyone with belief could result in a very costly mistake.
- To ensure the truth of video shown by the other party, ask for some “on the spot” questions which would require an immediate action from the respondent. This could help in checking the accuracy of video. You can also waive both hands to other person and see whether she is also waiving her hands in return or not. This would ensure the other person video is realtime or not.
- If you find anything suspicious just switch off the cam.
- Ask for the details of address and other details of the person. Ask them to guide you through their homes etc. or outside locality or photographs of their relatives etc. Just notice the response, each single response will be very helpful for you’re to ascertain the details.
- Do not disclose any confidential information or your financial status.
- Patience has a great virtue, make sure that you have had various interactions before you proceed further.
- If all the things are not enough for you to control and you know that you are going to be dipped into worldly passions, at least make sure that your face remains covered!
